Deleted Scenes from Wicked

Deleted scenes from Wicked have been unveiled, featuring a moment where Ariana Grande escapes from flying monkeys. Take a look at the clips below.

About the Film

The successful film is based on the musical of the same name, starring Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba, two classmates at Shiz University destined to become Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West, respectively.

The digital release of Wicked is set for tomorrow (December 31st), which will include additional scenes that were not part of the theatrical cut.

Over the weekend (December 27), three scenes were shared online by Entertainment Weekly and TODAY. One scene depicts Glinda influencing Elphaba through social etiquette to gain popularity, while another is a montage of the pair savoring a train journey through the Emerald City.

However, the latter scene is more intense: Glinda and Elphaba are desperate to evade the fury of the flying monkeys. Watch all three clips below.

Future Projects

Erivo recently disclosed that she co-wrote a song for Evil: For Good, its sequel, as well as a follow-up to the musical adaptation slated for release next year. She also announced her debut album, set to drop next year, just ahead of the second film’s debut.

Wicked has gained immense commercial success in recent weeks, receiving favorable reviews from critics. In a four-star review, NME stated: “Wicked loses a bit of momentum in the middle, but not enough to overshadow the dramatic climax where Elphaba and Glinda travel to Oz to meet the legendary Wonderful Wizard (Jeff Goldblum). He and Yeo deliver their brief musical pieces with radiant charisma, while both Erivo and Grande showcase remarkable vocal strengths.”

“It’s essential to highlight their superb chemistry, emphasized by Erivo’s passionate bursts and Grande’s skillful comedic timing. You may not leap from your seat by the end, but you will certainly be intrigued enough to enjoy the soundtrack on your way home. Witty, vibrant, and rich in empathy for those on the fringes, this film is undeniably ‘Shiz.’

In other news, director Adam McKay expressed his belief that Wicked might face a ban in three years if the U.S. “continues on its current path.”
