“The album is mine, produced by me and Jim-E Stack,” said Lorde regarding her new entry, which also includes contributions from Devonté Hynes, Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, Buddy Ross, Dan Nigro, and Blood Orange’s Devonté Hynes. According to Lorde’s Virgin website, the album was mixed by Spike Stent and Tom Elmhirst and mastered by Chris Gehringer, and is “100% written from the heart.”
She elaborated on the inspiration for the album in an electronic letter to fans, stating (as reported by Pitchfork): “The color of the album is clear. Like a bath, windows, ice, and more. Complete transparency. The language is simple and straightforward. The sounds are as pure as possible. I aimed to convey my essence throughout the creation process.

“I sought to craft a document that reflects my femininity: raw, elemental, innocent, elegant, open, and spiritual, without any masks. I am proud yet apprehensive about this album. There’s nowhere to hide. I believe engaging with our emotions through music is what liberates us.”
After her appearance at the Met Gala over the weekend, where she mentioned that her outfit contained Easter eggs regarding the new album, Lorde has since elaborated on her reflections about her journey with gender and past body image issues.
