Trailer For Bono: History Stories
An intimate documentary featuring U2’s frontman Bono has been unveiled.
Director And Documentary Details
Directed by Andrew Dominik, known for his work on Nick Cave’s documentaries With Feeling Again and I Know It’s True, as well as the biopic Blonde about Marilyn Monroe, this Apple TV+ DOC aims to reinterpret Bono’s stage performance titled Surrender Stories: An Evening of Words, Music, and Some Harm…
Additionally, it will showcase the intimate moments from his residency in April 2023 at the Beacon Theater in New York, coinciding with the promotion of his book Back: 40 Songs, One Story, Memoirs Told After 40 U2 Songs.
“This is my story,” he states in the trailer released today (April 30). “I am stuck with this.”
In the trailer, he reflects on the loss of his mother at the age of 14 and discusses the complexities of fame. “The last time I saw my mother alive,” he recalls, “was at her own father’s funeral. It sounds almost too Irish, I know. My father’s way of dealing with that tragedy was to never talk about her again.”

Reflecting on personal relationships, he mentions: “Interestingly, the most unusual aspect of my life is the people I am connected to. I met my wife Ali in the same week I joined U2.”
The documentary is set to premiere on May 30 on Apple TV+. According to the press release, the film “pulls back the curtain on a remarkable life of family, friends, and faith that has shaped and upheld him, revealing his personal journey as a son, father, husband, activist, and rock star.”
The premiere will also launch on the Apple Vision Pro the same day as the film’s release, marking it as the first functional film available in Apple Immersive Video. A newly updated softcover edition of his memoir will also be released alongside the documentary.
In the updated edition, Back: 40 Songs, One Story, Memoirs Told After 40 U2 Songs, the book has been revised to reflect the arc of his solo show, with a new cover design and a fresh performance from the artist.
In other news, U2 recently shared a message from the piano in support of Ukraine and President Zelensky, commemorating the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion.
Meanwhile, Bono has indicated that new material from U2 will be released “very soon,” with the group hoping to perform some shows in the not-so-distant future. Last year, the guitarist mentioned that the upcoming album would not be “straight rock,” hinting at a collaboration with Bono and Brian Eno to create “some crazy science fiction Irish folk music.”
Drummer Larry Mullen Jr. also recently discussed his recovery from an injury that kept him out of the band for a while, mentioning that fans can expect new material soon.
