Charli XCX Stars in Takashi Miike’s Upcoming Film “Listening”

Charlie XCX Collaborates with Takashi Miike

Charlie XCX has been reported to be working on a new film project, this time alongside the acclaimed Japanese horror director Takashi Miike – find out more below.

Details of the Project

According to Diversity, it has been revealed that the 360 singer will not only star in Miike’s upcoming film but will also serve as a producer. While specifics about the project remain under wraps, the script is penned by Ross Evans, who previously wrote the screenplay for Robert Pattinson’s How to Save a Marriage.

While Takashi Miike is best known for his work within violent and blood-soaked genres—particularly in films like Audition (1999) and Ichi the Killer (2001)—he has also explored various themes in more than 100 projects as a director. Some of his other notable works include the Ravenous franchise, Family, and Dead or Alive.

The unnamed project is just one of many acting roles that Charlie XCX has recently signed onto. Last month, Prime Video unveiled a teaser for an upcoming comedy series titled Excessive Compensation, where Charlie portrays a comedic version of herself as she reacts with disbelief to a shocking assistant, exclaiming: “Do you think I want to play the damn ‘boom operator’ in a college film? Are there jokes?” Additionally, she serves as an executive producer for the show.

In December of last year, it was announced that Charlie XCX would join the cast of Gallerest alongside notable actors including Jenna Ortega, Natalie Portman, Da’Vin Joy Randolph, Sterling K. Brown, Zach Galifianakis, Daniel Bruhl, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Other ongoing projects feature collaborations with Gregg Araki in I Want Your Floor, and Sacrifice with Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Evans, alongside a graphic novel adaptation of 100 Nights of Hero starring Emma Corrin (Deadpool and Wolverine) and Mike Monroe (Longlegs).

In the fall of 2024, it was revealed that Charlie participated in a film titled Erupcja in Warsaw, Poland, during the summer. She also stars in an A24 mockumentary film, Moment, which is based on her original concept, with filming already underway in London.

After dominating cultural conversations for nearly a year, during her performance at Coachella earlier this month, Charlie XCX seemed to signal the end of the ‘Brat’ era when a giant screen displayed a message: “Maybe the time has come for another type of summer?”, immediately followed by a list of artists and directors participating this year.

Recently, Charlie expressed uncertainty about truly concluding her famed ‘Brat’ era, stating: “I don’t know. Hmm, but this made me think that it is really difficult to let go of ‘Brother’ and move on from something so integral to my life… I just want it to continue.”

The ‘Brat’ album was recognized as the album of the year by NME, which awarded it a four-star review, indicating its significance in 2024.

The subsequent remix album, “Brat and it is completely different, but also Brat,” received five stars from NME, with Aneas Ahmed praising: “She has elevated the art of remixing, preserving the essence of the songs while giving them a new life and not allowing them to remain static in their original form.”
