Frontman of Stereophonics shared updates with NME during a discussion marking the release of their new album “Make ‘Em Lack, Make ‘Em Cry, Make ‘Em Wait.”
During the conversation, he expressed his thoughts on the highly anticipated Oasis reunion show scheduled for this summer, elaborating on how it feels witnessing the return of Britpop icons.
The two bands have been linked for many years, having shared numerous stages, and Jones maintains good relationships with both Liam and Noel Gallagher.
“It’s great that they’ve reunited. It took quite some time,” he remarked to NME, adding, “Apart from the group itself, the scale of these shows and the sheer number of people wanting to attend is remarkable. It’s astonishing for musicians to be a part of this second chance at something great.”
He then reflected on a trip he took to Japan with Oasis and how Noel had previously taken him “under his wing,” introducing him to Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey.
“Interestingly, I came across some old photos of me and Noel rehearsing when he had a studio in Windsor just before we toured America,” he noted, explaining that he recently learned that Gallagher is busy with new music.
“We laughed about it when I asked him what he was up to, and he replied that he was writing in the studio. I assume he’s working on his own material or maybe they (Oasis) have a couple of songs in the works—I’m not sure,” he shared.
While it’s uncertain if Noel’s new studio work will result in new Oasis songs, high-flying birds tracks, or something altogether different, it’s notable that Liam initially hinted at new Oasis material but later dismissed it as a joke.
In subsequent interviews, Jones elaborated on the significance of the band’s reunion for the music industry. “Whether it will feel the same as it did back then, I don’t know. The 90s and 2000s had a different cultural context, much like the 1970s,” he stated.
“I’m sure it will be incredible. Whatever it is in 2025 will be even more exciting. I know many people my age with children who can’t believe they’ll finally get the chance to see them,” he continued.
“Whether you like their music or not, there’s an energy that draws in hundreds of thousands of people, and that can only be a good thing, regardless of who the performer is. People need this now more than ever.”
This isn’t the first time Kelly Jones has discussed his friendship with the Gallagher brothers. As noted by Wales Online, he revealed a humorous text he received from Noel when “Dakota” reached number one on the charts.

“I remember getting a text from Noel saying, ‘Yes, you’ve got your first number one,’ followed by, in capital letters, ‘But you used a damn synthesizer…!'” he recalled.
Back in 2021, he also mentioned to Rolling Stone UK how Liam Gallagher influenced the formation of the Stereophonics album “Just Enough Education to Perform.” “Liam listened and made suggestions for vocal harmonies. It all became increasingly surreal,” he noted.
In another NME interview, Kelly Jones discussed how the band chose the name for their new album.
“One of the guys who taught us back in film school used it in our pages, and it had been lingering in my mind,” he explained.
“It mainly encapsulates a narrative arc that I probably drew upon in set-list narratives and such. You tell audiences a funny story, then switch to something more touching. The name subconsciously references many things I’ve done, and it just resurfaced.”
Stereophonics are set to kick off their stadium tour in June, while Oasis will also return to the UK over the summer. You can find the remaining Stereophonics tickets here.
