Superfan Sesh Platform Secures $7 Million in Funding Led by Miura Global

Sesh raises 7 million dollars

SESH, a platform that connects fans with artists through interactive experiences, exclusive content, and live events, announced today that it has secured $7 million in funding. This investment was led by Miura Global, with contributions from angel investors in the music and technology sectors.

With this funding, Sesh aims to “expand its platform capabilities, onboard more artists, and enhance its technologies to facilitate deeper understanding and possibilities for interaction.”

Sesh, founded by Pepe del Rio, Yinigo-Hubertus Bunzl Pelaio, and Maria Jose Gusman, is based on the belief that superfans are vital for sustained success in the music industry.

The company collaborates with over 250 artists, including Yeri Mua, Anitta, Allech, Yorgaki, Mau Ricky, Lasso, Timyo, Neti Peluso, Zoe Gosso, and many others, reaching a total of 750 million monthly listeners.

Additionally, Sesh has launched a participant card that allows fans to register and download a digital pass to their phone’s wallet.

This participant card enables artists to send direct notifications to fans’ phone wallets, “transcending the limitations of streaming access and social media channels.”

“Artists can direct their audience to a new musical release, exclusive merchandise drops, VIP events, or pre-sale tickets directly within the ecosystem,” the company stated in its announcement on April 22.

A new way to connect with fans

SESH claims that “traditional social media platforms often create barriers between artists and their most engaged audience, limiting direct connection and data access.”

According to the company, their platform provides artists with “unprecedented access and a direct line of communication with their fans, allowing full ownership of key data such as email, location, name, birthdate, and interaction insights. This enables creators to cultivate and develop their relationships with audiences without depending on third-party platforms.”

“All you need is a few hundred fans who are truly engaged to pursue music as a career. Our mission at SESH is to empower as many artists as possible to make a living from what they love.”

“Artists face a significant gap between those who can earn a living in the music industry and talented individuals who are forced to treat music as a hobby because they can’t effectively monetize their audience,” noted Pepe del Rio, co-founder and CEO of Sesh.

“All you need is a few hundred fans who are genuinely engaged to pursue music as a career, and our mission at SESH is to enable as many artists as possible to build a career from their passion.”

The announcement of SESH’s funding comes amidst a growing focus on superfans in the music industry.

For instance, it was reported a few weeks ago that the highly anticipated Warner Music Group Superfan application is nearing launch, with Ed Sheeran as its first featured artist.

Warner’s entry into the superfan platform space follows the success of Hybe’s Weverse, which has seen 150 million total global downloads by 2024.

Additionally, Kakao Entertainment, the largest player in the Korean entertainment sector and HYBE’s competitor, launched its own platform called Berriz last month.

Universal Music Group is also signaling its focus on superfans. In September 2024, UMG’s Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and President of Operations, Boyd Mur, noted that “superfans, who represent the most passionate 20% to 30% of all music listeners, once contributed over 70% of the recorded music revenue.”

Furthermore, Spotify plans to launch the Music Pro level, which may include access to Superfan Clubs, as shared by its CEO, Daniel Ek.
