Wendy Expresses Respect for Katy Perry but Stands Firm on Criticism of Space Flight

Wendy’s Response to Katy Perry’s Space Flight

Wendi’s fast food chain addressed recent criticisms regarding Katy Perry’s cosmic flight, stating that they hold a “ton of respect” for pop stars.

The Cosmic Adventure

The Cosmic Tourism company Amazon, led by Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, launched the singer into space on Monday (April 14) alongside an all-female crew that included TV presenter Gale King, film producer Keriann Flynn, scientist Amanda Nguyen, and author Loren Sayin, who is Bezos’ fiancée.

The trip faced significant backlash, with actress Olivia Munn and Emily Ratajkowski expressing their disapproval, and Lily Allen labeled the mission “out of touch,” saying there was “no damn reason” for it.

Wendy also chimed in on social media, humorously asking if they could “send Katy Perry back into space” and quipped: “When we said that women in STEM are not what we had in mind.” They later clarified their stance on the singer, issuing an official statement to People, saying, “We always bring a little spice to our social media,” without offering a full apology.

“But Wendy has a ton of respect for Katy Perry and her work in this world.”

The Tension Between Perry and Kesha

Wendy’s comment didn’t go unnoticed by Kesha, who seemed to subtly support the quip. The tension between the two artists had been highly publicized, especially after Kesha’s decade-long legal battle with Dr. Luke, whom she accused of emotional and sexual abuse.

Perry has collaborated with the producer on major hits like “I Kissed a Girl,” “California Gurls,” and “Dark Horse.” After Kesha’s lawsuit, Dr. Luke denied the allegations and claimed Kesha was trying to escape their recording contract by making false accusations.

Perry found herself embroiled in the trial when Kesha alleged that Perry was also a victim of Dr. Luke’s abuse, an assertion Perry strongly denied. Eventually, a judge ruled that Kesha had upset Dr. Luke and offered a similar amount in compensation.

In 2018, Perry mentioned feeling pressured to support Kesha, stating that she felt “used” by Luke to validate his innocence, which left her “irritated” by both parties. Dr. Luke did not work on Perry’s 2017 album “Witness” because she didn’t want to appear to take sides.

In the summer of 2023, Kesha’s legal dispute with Dr. Luke concluded, just a month prior to their court appearance. However, Kesha maintained her initial allegations against him.

Meanwhile, Gail King spoke out against the criticism of space travel, stating in a recent video: “Of course, I read some things online from people I know and consider friends. Here’s what I would say: space is not ‘either/or,’ it’s ‘both/and,’ and just because you are doing something in space doesn’t mean you’re neglecting what’s happening on the ground.”
