Inspiration Behind The Music

The Fleetwood Mac singer shared this exciting news at Pollstar’s event, where she was honored by music mogul Jimmy Iovine. Addressing the audience, she expressed that she is now “actually making a record,” affectionately calling it her “ghost” album, as it all came together in just a few weeks.

“I have seven songs, which are autobiographical, real stories presented without any embellishment—probably for the first time in my life,” she explained. “These are not superficial songs that catch your interest but leave you perplexed. They are genuine tales, rooted in my memories and featuring remarkable people.”

Nicks revealed that her motivation for creating the album was inspired by her friendship with Prince. She recounted meeting him after the premiere of Purple Rain, sharing that watching the Prince slapping Apollonia, the film’s love interest, made her so nervous she had to “flee” to a bathroom for the remainder of the movie.

After telling Prince she only loved the first half of the film, she presented him with a beautiful necklace with 24-carat gold hearts. His response was, “I do not want your necklace,” followed by, “You always bring me a gift.”
