Exciting Performance at California Festival

The punk-duo is set to perform on the second day of the California Festival on Sunday (April 20) at the Sonora stage. In an impressive move, they penned an open letter to John Vic star, inviting him to be their special guest during the show.

“Keanu, damn us, we love you, friend! We wrote a song about John Vic from his perspective,” they stated. “It would be a dream come true if you could come and play with us at Coachella. Much love, Isaac (33) and Lori (32). XX”

New Music and Upcoming Projects

The song in question is titled “John Vic,” which appeared on their 2024 album “Heavy Jelly.” The lightning-fast 82-second track features singer Isaac Holman, who passionately sings: “I tried to resign, then you set fire to my house / and you killed my dog, you killed my fucking dog / I am John Vic, bitch, and I am angry

While Reeves has not been a prominent figure in live music recently, he did play bass in his band Dogstar during the early ’90s. Following several releases influenced by the grunge era, the group took a hiatus, only to make a comeback in 2023 with their album “Somewhere Between Power Lines and Palm Trees.”

They have since embarked on a substantial UK and European tour, dubbed the “Summer Vacation,” supporting their record, including several North American shows last summer.

In other news, Soft Play is likely excited to learn that John Vic: Chapter 5 has been officially confirmed by Lionsgate, although Reeves suggests that a new installment in the action franchise seems unlikely. Reports indicate that Reeves and director Chad Stahelski will return for the upcoming Chapter 4, which received four stars from NME. The review praised Stahelski for understanding how choreography, performance, and style can turn extreme spectacles into thoroughly enjoyable action movies.

Meanwhile, Soft Play recently discussed their collaboration with Kate Nash for “The Lash,” which is featured in the expanded edition of “Heavy Jelly.” They noted the importance of authenticity in songwriting: “I always tell people struggling with writer’s block: you don’t need something incredible to write about. Just write about what’s in front of you.”
