The musician, known as Lizzy Maland, shared that today marks the release of “the first single in the history of their first solo project” on Thursday, April 17.
“I can't wait for you to hear it all !!” Mayland expressed alongside a dreamy musical fragment. “I will provide all the details very soon …”
Debut EP Details
Confirming the release date, the guitarist and singer revealed that their debut EP, consisting of five tracks titled “The Slow Fire of Sleep,” will be available on Friday, May 9. You can pre-order it here. To provide a glimpse of the upcoming collection, Mayland has released her first solo single.
“Lighthouse” explores a healthy romantic relationship for the first time in their life and the fear of losing it, ”they explained.
A tender composition arrives with ethereal visual effects from frequent collaborator TLDP Cal McIntyre.

“I pitched the video idea, then I found out Cal wanted to direct it, and I was thrilled,” Maland added. “He captured the essential elements for me while contributing his aesthetic talents.”
They began crafting what would evolve into “The Slow Fire of Sleep” in the quiet moments between touring with their last band, being neither “on the road nor spiritually engaged with daily home life.”
Mayland reflected, “These tracks have undoubtedly been influenced by those times. Suddenly, I found myself in my tranquil apartment, filling the silence with my guitar and these melancholic songs. It was a way to process everything happening in my life and reconnect with myself.”
The new EP aims to reveal a more intimate side of the musician, inspired by artists like Nick Drake, Brian Eno, Eva Cassidy, and Adrianne Lenker. Mayland also drew inspiration from original film soundtracks, such as Alex Turner’s Submarine EP and compositions by Oliver Coates in Descendant.
For the title track and final piece of the EP, Mayland confronts “hopelessness about the ongoing environmental crisis.” They stated, “I aimed to end the song without my voice at all.
“I sought an apocalyptic sensation, a texture that encapsulates despair beautifully, which IMMI and their team helped create.”
The EP also illustrates Mayland’s relationship with Paul (“mother-mother”), reflects on the transition from rural living to urban life (“home”), and navigates the maintaining of their first healthy relationship while on tour (“lighthouse” and “on the other side of the world, where I would hear you”).
“The Slow Fire of Sleep” is a collection in which the narrator delves into the spectrum of vulnerability, loneliness, and introspection with somber honesty, as noted in the press release.
L. Mayland will showcase the EP with two intimate live performances in London and Manchester next month. Register for tickets here and check out the tour dates below.
