Sony Music Entertainment (SME) has announced the promotion of Kevin Fu to the position of managing director for Southeast Asia, specifically overseeing operations in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand, effective immediately.
Responsibilities and Leadership Role
In this capacity, Fu will oversee what SME terms “some of the fastest growing musical markets of South-Eastern Asia” and will spearhead the company’s initiatives to “stimulate growth, develop champions, and deepen audience engagement in all key countries.”
Fu will lead a team that SME describes as an “established and dynamic group,” which includes general managers from Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines, as well as the vice president of international marketing for Southeast Asia, who will report directly to him.
Based in Singapore, he will be reporting to Subramaniam Schridhar, President of Asia and the Middle East at Sony Music Entertainment.
Previously, Fu served as managing director of RCA Records Greater China and general director of SME Taiwan. Before joining Sony Music, he owned one of Singapore’s largest studios (BeeP Studios) and managed UMAMI Records indie.
He also managed several artists including Charlie Lim, Evanturetime, and Steve Mccakens through his artist management company, Foundation Music.
According to Sony, the newly appointed executive director boasts a strong track record, showcasing “leadership and passion for the music industry.” In Taiwan, which SME considers one of its most mature markets, he demonstrated a long-term approach to artist collaboration, industry growth, and social justice issues.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Fu initiated “cross-border cooperation,” uniting 15 artists from eight countries under the SME brand. This project supported a charitable initiative by Taiwanese singer-songwriter Eric Chow and highlighted “the power of music as a force for good,” gathering “Asian superstars” such as Ben and Ben, Fatin, and Saisari.
“Kevin has a unique ability to connect artists, markets, and audiences in a way that creates both commercial and cultural impact.”
