Festival Details and Artist Comments

Announced this morning (April 16), these two talented artists join the lineup curated by Radio 1, with a focus on celebrating iconic tracks and unforgettable moments from the last twenty years of music.

This expansion aligns with Radio 1’s initiative, launched on BBC Sounds last November, aimed at helping young listeners rediscover a diverse range of music and artists championed by the station during the 2000s and 2010s.

The festival will take place in Sefton Park, Liverpool, from Friday, May 23, to Sunday, May 25, 2025. Natasha Bedingfield will perform on the opening day (23), while Sugababes will take the stage the following day (24).

“It’s an incredible opportunity to be part of the Big Weekend with Radio 1. I’m excited to jump on stage and share my passion with everyone!” Bedingfield expressed. “Let’s hope some restrictions are lifted!”

Sugababes shared their excitement: “We are thrilled to perform at Radio 1’s Big Weekend! We’ve heard amazing things about the energy and crowds, and we can’t wait to be part of it. Expect plenty of love, big melodies, and a show to remember!”

Addressing the announcement of these artists, Radio 1 head Alid Haydn Jones stated, “Radio 1’s Big Weekend is all about bringing people together through the music they love, and our Radio 1 hymns artists exemplify this.”

“These performances provide soundtracks for unforgettable moments for our audience and continue to resonate with listeners today, whether they’re revisiting old favorites or hearing them for the first time.”

“I am genuinely excited about this fresh addition to the Big Weekend, and I can’t wait to see how these iconic acts will energize the crowd in Liverpool.”

Earlier this year, several other acts were announced for the weekend, including Sam Fender, Blossoms, Lola Young, Wet Leg, and Brits Rising Star 2025 nominee Myles Smith.

Last month, a new wave of artists was revealed, with Tom Grennan headlining Friday night, and performances by Biffy Clyro, Conduit Man, Barry Can Play, Nia Archives, Katy B, and Wombats also confirmed. The lineup for the BBC Introducing stage will also showcase an array of acts. Visit tickets here.

Last year’s Big Weekend took place in Luton, featuring performances from Coldplay, Vampire Weekend, and Raye.

The addition of Sugababes comes shortly after the trio, consisting of Keisha Buchanen, Mutya Buena, and Siobhan Donaghy, released an unexpected new single titled “Weeds.” This release coincided with the kickoff of their extensive arena tour, beginning at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, following the success of their March release, “Jungle.”

For Bedingfield, this performance marks just one of many live shows she will conduct this summer, coinciding with the re-release of her debut album “Unwritten” in celebration of its 20th anniversary.
