Borland teased the 1986 classic “Orion,” giving it a modern twist just before his band’s upcoming shows alongside Thrash Metal legends.
“I was messing around and looping ‘Orion’ from Metallica this afternoon,” he wrote alongside the video. “Is anyone going to any of the shows this summer?”
While Borland has not confirmed if the song will be performed during the tour, many fans expressed their excitement, with one commenting that it “sounds absolutely arena-shaking,” another saying, “My favorite instrumental just got a fresh coat of paint,” and another added, “I just thought about ‘Orion’ and listened to it on Sunday. I love what you’ve done with it.”
History of ‘Orion’
“Orion” was part of Metallica’s landmark third album, “Master of Puppets,” primarily written by bassist Cliff Burton. Tragically, Burton passed away six months after the album’s release in a bus crash, and the track was played during his funeral. Frontman James Hetfield has since removed notes from a tattoo of the song’s title on his hand.
Limp Bizkit recently completed their “Limp Bizkit” tour across the UK and Europe and is set to support Metallica during their world tour “M72” in Toronto, Nashville, Philadelphia, Tampa, Santa Clara, and Denver from April to June, sharing the support slot with various bands.
Pantor and Suicidal Tendencies will also join the tour, alternating dates with Metallica and Ice Nine Kills. When Metallica heads to Australia and New Zealand in November, Suicidal Tendencies will accompany them.
Upcoming Events and New Music
In July, Limp Bizkit will perform at the North Dakota Fair before returning to the UK in August for the Reading and Leeds Festivals. Vocalist Fred Durst is set to appear at the final live show of Black Sabbath in Birmingham on July 5.
Last November, the band also confirmed they were back in the studio working on new material. Their last album, “Still Sucks,” was released in 2021 and marked their first LP in ten years. In a three-star review, NME described it as “the thin, self-aware party anthems of a sixth album,” noting that Limp Bizkit is not aiming to redefine their legacy or reach a new generation. They seem content with knowing how to party and not stopping anytime soon.
On another note, Limp Bizkit’s “Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle)” was featured as the theme for the recent Netflix anime series, Devil May Cry.
