In a recent Instagram message, Martin shared his personal insights on mental health while the band is on tour in Hong Kong.

In the video, he mentioned that he has seen many people, including himself, struggling with depression. He expressed his desire to share helpful strategies “in the hope that some of them can be useful for you.”

Martin’s Recommendations for Mental Well-Being

The first piece of advice he provided was participating in a practice called “A letter with a free form,” where you dedicate 12 minutes to journaling your thoughts and concerns, and then either burn or dispose of the paper.

Another suggestion was “transcendental meditation,” which he claimed has “worked wonders for me.” According to the website he recommends, this practice is “a simple mental technique practiced quietly with your eyes closed, while sitting comfortably,” promoting greater mental balance and clarity.

Martin also introduced a technique he referred to as propriocasculation, which he described as “body movement to help balance your brain.” He recognized Jim Church, who developed the “Costello method,” particularly beneficial for young people with ADHD or autism.

As I shared, the method on the site is “a body-centered approach to healing, and not just mental,” aimed at “helping individuals reconnect with their body and ultimately feel at home within themselves.”

Other suggestions from the artist included “Music for Psychedelic Therapy” by John Hopkins, a film called “Sing,” a book titled Oxygen Advantage that is “excellent for breathing,” and music from NME 100’s Chloe Qisha.

Coldplay’s clip addressing depression comes after he discussed mental health in an exclusive interview with NME last year. This was his first and only written interview for the new album “Moon Music,” where he shared how the writing process brought him through dark times.

When asked if his significant performance at Glastonbury helped him overcome the “existential crisis” he previously mentioned, Martin said: “In a way, (Fox’s presence), being at Glastonbury, reminded us of the festival’s spirit: to seek joy. And when you can’t find it, you need to search for it.”

He continued: “When everything appears overwhelmingly positive, it is often because that’s what the singer needs the most; my mind tends to be filled with negativity over the years – from the start – music has been the place where I find light and clarity in some of the more complicated aspects of life.”

Regarding how the themes of mental health and optimism influenced the new album, Martin stated: “Moon Music” depicts a story of awakening in the morning and feeling severely hurt and alienated from the world – depressed, disconnected, and unable to be oneself.

“Throughout the album, this is a journey to reaching the opposite feeling by the end of the day.”

Lunar Music received a glowing four-star review from NME, with Ryan Daily describing it as a record that “feels like a return for Martin and those who relate to him, one pop anthem at a time.”

Later this year, the band will embark on a British tour over the summer, taking over stadiums in London and beyond. Additionally, demonstrating their commitment to support mental health initiatives, 10% of their proceeds will be donated to the Music Pervice Trust. Visit here for ticket availability.
