David Bowie’s Daughter, Jones: “I’m My Own Artist, Not a Imitation of My Father”

David Bowie’s Daughter Addresses Comparisons

David Bowie’s daughter, Jones, has made it clear that she is not a “copy” of her late father following the release of her debut album “Xandri.”

Her New Album and Poetic Reflections

The 24-year-old artist, whose mother is the former model Iman, unveiled a 12-track album earlier this month. The project fuses Pop, Electronic, and Indie-Rock elements, featuring songs by Johns, Johns-Valcal, and Johns Dranding Front.

The title “Xandri” derives from a Greek term meaning “protector of mankind.” The album includes tracks such as “Through All the Time,” “Movement Further,” “Stand Alone,” and “Glass.”

Recently, Jones shared a revealing poem on her official Instagram account titled “David Bowie’s Daughter.” In the post, she wrote, “It attracts your attention, right?”

The poem reflects her feelings: “I am the daughter of legends, but I am more than just his name. They see blood, they hear the sound, but do not see me, do not feel the same.”

“They compare me with his heights, as if I should get to his light. But I am not here to pursue what has already been done. Loving what I do, I feel that I have already won.”

The poem continues: “Some like what I did, others laugh at how I move. And yet they want me to continue the legacy, but it has never been my truth.”

She emphasizes that Jones is “not a copy, not a shadow” of Bowie, adding, “I am just a girl who is also embarrassed to you.” She concludes, “I never thought that I have a lot of good. I never thought it was worth pursuing.”

Jones continued: “I am not trying to be those who love and admire everything. Therefore, I create my own rhythm, allowing my true show.

“But no one knows what it feels like to be constantly desperate, then, finally, just saying ‘fuck,’ and then compared.”

The poem concludes: “But I will continue to move, I continue to make a meme, even when the world is difficult to please. I’m not trying to fill his shoes; I’m just trying to find my own world.” Read this full in the post above.

Last month, Jones shared a photograph of herself and Bowie when she was a child, captioning it simply “Dad.”

In 2023, she posted a heartfelt home video commemorating the seventh anniversary of Bowie’s passing, showcasing them playing the keyboard together. In 2018, both Jones and her mother honored Bowie by getting matching tattoos in his memory.

Bowie passed away on January 10, 2016, after a private battle with cancer for 18 months. The artist released his 26th and final studio album “Blackstar” on his 69th birthday, just two days before his death.

His work is set to be featured in a completely new experiential event called Live Odyssey.

In other news, a special release of Bowie’s “Ready, Fit, Go!” a live album was launched for Record Store Day 2025. Additionally, his childhood home in Bromley has been put on the market.
