Details on the Performance

The new rendition of the former single by the 1988 Police frontman—extracted from his second album “… Nothing Like the Sun” (1987)—accompanies the final scene of the second episode of the popular Netflix series.

This version was performed by 14-year-old actress Emilia Holliday (who portrays the murdered schoolgirl Katie Leonard) along with the real choir from Minstorp College in South Elmsalla, West Yorkshire, where the episode was filmed. The arrangement was done by Aaron May and David Ridley.

Sting noted, “The reaction to the cover of my song ‘Fragile’ in the new Netflix series Teenager has been fantastic.”

“I am always interested to hear one of my songs through someone else’s lens. A great cover version can reveal aspects of a song that I did not initially perceive and give it a new life.”

He continued: “Emilia Holliday and the choir students of Minstorp College are incredibly talented. Together, they created something beautiful.” You can see the post above.

Reception and Future of the Series

Co-authors Jack Thorn and Stephen Graham from Teenager noted that the latter also portrays Eddie Miller-Water, a 13-year-old schoolboy Jamie (Owen Cooper). The show was directed by Philip Barantini (Boiling Point).

In a four-star review, NME described the series as “Basic View,” adding, “This low-commitment look into the darker corners of the story will linger with you long after viewing.”

Netflix recently announced that it would make Teenager available for free viewing in all secondary schools across the UK.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed to the creators that it is “very difficult to watch” alongside his own teenage children when discussing the impact of online toxic material.

Not long after, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson criticized the plans to air Teenager in British schools, labeling the series as “well-made trash.”

Meanwhile, reports indicate that producers are considering a second series of Teenager.

In other news, Sting is set to headline the Isle of Wight Festival and Latitude in summer 2025. This fall, he will perform in London after a concert at the O2 Forum Kentish Town.

Earlier this year, the largest choir in the UK announced that they would no longer perform the Police’s “Every Breath You Take” due to its lyrical content.
