Weezer Unveils New Movie and Introduces RiversiMo

Weezer’s New Film Project Announcement

Weezer revealed during their appearance at Coachella 2025 that they are working on an exciting new film project.

The band performed on the second day of the first weekend of the California festival last Saturday (April 12), treating the audience to a set filled with classic songs that was announced just a few days prior.

While filming, frontman Rivers Cuomo shared with the crowd that they had been immersed in this mysterious film project over the past month.

“We were busy creating the film ‘Weezer’ in Los Angeles for the past couple of weeks, but when Coachella called us, they said: ‘Hey, Weezer, are you guys ready for a surprise?’ ‘Damn it, yes!’ he exclaimed. “It’s so good to be here with you all and to express these emotions.”

Details and Fan Involvement

No further details about the film have been confirmed. However, as reported by Stereogum, a user on the Weezer subreddit indicated that the band had invited fans to participate in a “private recording session” for the TBA video on April 21.

These fans will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to maintain the confidentiality of the video, and photography will be prohibited.

Recent Events and Upcoming Tours

Last week was notably eventful for Weezer. Gillian Shriner, the wife of bassist Scott, was taken into custody in Los Angeles following an incident where she sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound from a police officer.

In a complex series of events unrelated to a car pursuit, Shriner was reportedly involved in a confrontation where she discharged a firearm at one of the suspects and subsequently aimed it at the officers, refusing to lower it. She was “booked for attempted murder” and later released on a $1 million bond.

Meanwhile, Weezer is set to embark on a tour of the UK and Europe later this year. Tickets can be purchased here (UK/Ireland) and here (Europe).

In 2024, the band celebrated the 30th anniversary of their 1994 debut album, the Blue Album, with a series of special performances, a new concert film, and a comprehensive re-release of the LP.
