Michel Zauner and the group performed at the Open Air Theater during the California Festival on Saturday (April 12), showcasing several songs from their latest album “For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women)”, which was released last month.

Midway through their set, they played their version of Gorillaz’s 2010 track, with Ginger Ruth joining them as their current introductory act. Crystable Lin, a touring member of Japanese Breakfast, played a distinctive riff on the electric violin. Watch the frames below.

In a review of “Melancholy Brunettes (and Sad Women)”, NME awarded the album four stars, stating: “The delightfully nuanced songwriting by Michel Zauner shines on a bold, beautifully crafted fourth album by these indie rockers.”

The group is set to embark on a world tour that will include stops in Austin, Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit, Boston, Brooklyn, and many more locations before heading to Europe and the UK. The tour will conclude with a return to the United States, closing at the Armory in Minneapolis on September 9.
