Bernie Sanders Honors Clairo at Coachella 2025, Commends Her Advocacy for Gas and Women’s Rights

Bernie Sanders’ Surprise Appearance at Coachella

Bernie Sanders surprised the audience at Coachella by presenting Klaro yesterday (April 12), encouraging her fans to “fight for social justice” and applauding the singer’s efforts.

Issues Facing the Younger Generation

In anticipation of the Sharm set at the Open Air Theater, Florida Congressman Maxwell Frost took the stage to introduce Sanders. Addressing the crowd in California, the senator from Vermont told Klaro’s fans that the nation is grappling with “some very difficult problems, and the future of America relies on your generation.”

“You can turn away and ignore what is happening, but if you do, it’s at your own peril and risk,” he continued. “We need you to rise up and fight for justice. Fight for economic justice, social justice, and racial justice.”

His remarks aimed at the Trump administration—of which Clairo is a vocal critic—elicited a significant reaction from the audience. “I concur,” Sanders said in response to their applause. “He believes climate change is a deception. He is dangerously misled, and together, we must confront the fossil fuel industry and demand they stop destroying our planet.”

“Across the country, not just in California or Vermont, but also in Florida, from where Maxwell is, politicians are attempting to strip women of their right to control their own bodies. We need you to rise up and defend women’s rights,” Sanders urged.

He noted that the current U.S. system is “working very well for a billionaire class, but not for working families”—comments he made just hours after organizing a free concert called Bernie-Chella in a large Los Angeles park, alongside Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, featuring Neil Young, Maggie Rogers, and Joan Baez.

Before Klaro’s performance, Sanders praised her for using her voice to highlight important political issues. “I am here to honor Klaro, not simply because she is a talented artist, but also because at just 13, she shared a video online as a singer-songwriter,” he explained.

“I want to acknowledge Klaro not just for her talent but for her dedication to fighting for women’s rights and bringing attention to a devastating war that has tragically taken the lives of thousands of women and children. Thank you, Klaro, for your commitment.”

This political representation comes just a day after an art collective critiqued late-stage capitalism by disrupting Billboard’s Coachella, loudly condemning it from the main stage.
