The renowned designer Bon Jovi and Deep Purple Artwork Ioannis Vasilopoulos passed away at the age of 66.

The artist, who created iconic pieces for various Hard Rock and Heavy Metal bands for decades, continued to sell prints of his artwork on his Official site until his passing. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

In a post on his Facebook page, the Vasilopoulos family shared a heartfelt message earlier this week (April 8), stating, “The outpouring of love for John and his work is of great comfort. John wished to explore so many new projects, and we, as a family, are excited to continue his legacy.”

“His vibrant energy will resonate through his extraordinary art. His infectious smile and child-like enthusiasm can be felt in all his creations. Ioannis will undoubtedly be remembered as one of rock’s greatest artists.”

Following the announcement, the groups that previously collaborated with Vasilopoulos shared their condolences on social networks. The Progressive Metal band Fates Warning, which featured his artwork on albums such as “Awaken the Guardian”, “Pleasant Shade of Gray”, and “FWX”, described him as a “dear friend” and acknowledged him for creating “some of the most memorable imagery for the band.”

In a message written in Greek, they expressed their sentiments with the words “eternal memory,” a prayer commonly recited among those from the Eastern Orthodox Christian faith.

Voivod shared a memory of their founder and drummer Michel Lanzhevin alongside Vasilopoulos, who apparently contributed artistically to the album defining their career, “NutryFace,” which remains a classic showcase by Vasilopoulos.

“Our thoughts are with John’s family and friends during this challenging time,” they commented. “His artistic legacy will continue to inspire and enchant audiences for generations to come. Rest in peace, John.”
