Ambassador for Record Store Day
The singer serves as an ambassador this year, with the event taking place on April 12. Over 270 independent record stores across the UK will participate, alongside thousands globally.
In the “Strangers” feature, Fender picked five albums for RSD, sharing that he started visiting record stores only at the age of 20 during his recent revival: “This is the best way to show support to the artists you love.”
He highlighted essential albums, including “Pink Moon” by Nick Drake (“Absolute Classic”) and “Full Moon Fever” by Tom Petty (“This Album is a Beast”).
Fender also discussed “77” by Talking Heads, recalling, “When I was in my first band, my bassist’s foster dad said: ‘You’ve never heard of Talking Heads?’ He had this on a CD – that was the first time I heard them, and it was that album.”
Fender included more contemporary releases, such as “UFOF” by Big Thief (“I loved it when it first came out”) and “Manning Fireworks” by MJ Lenderman (“That was my shower song”). Check out all of Fender’s selections below:

Reflecting on his role as an ambassador, Fender stated that “it’s a complete honor to be asked.”
“The importance of indie stores cannot be overstated. Without them, we lose physical spaces for music fans to discover both new favorite artists and to build friendships with like-minded people.”
To commemorate this event, Fender will release a 12-inch vinyl record titled “I and the Dog,” which will follow his last album “PEOPLE SMOKE,” praised by NME as “reflective, analytical, and vulnerable” in a four-star review.

According to Fender, “I and the Dog” may eventually become the title of his new album, so it deserves its own moment. The EP will include two unreleased tracks: “I Am Always on Stage” and “Empty Spaces.”
Fender has also recently revealed that he is already working on new material for the summer and announced further dates for his upcoming UK stadium tour, including VitenShow Park in Manchester on August 16, Edinburgh Summer Sessions on August 22, and Boucher Road Playing Fields in Belfast as part of the Vital series on August 28.
Support for the first two shows will come from Olivia Dean, while CMAT will open the show in Belfast. Visit here to buy tickets and find a list of tour dates in Great Britain here.
In other news, Taylor Swift achieved the largest sales for a new vinyl release of the decade.
