Rap Star’s Thoughts on Brody and His Work
The rap star behind “Utopia” was the focus of a recent Difficult cover story in April, where he discussed encounters with fans and other celebrities, including Cameron Diaz. Difficult pointed out that in January, Diaz revealed her admiration for Scott and Tyler, the Creator.
Scott mentioned Brody during the conversation; since the interview took place a month before the Oscars, he expressed hope that Brody would win Best Actor, which he ultimately did.
“Did you watch Brutalist? This film is heavy as hell,” Scott said. “I hope he will win Best Actor. That’s my dog.”
“I ran into him at a fashion show recently, and I’ve always been a fan of his,” he added. “He’s been in Wes Anderson films and has worked with many directors I admire.”
“I sat next to him and thought to myself, ‘Damn, I don’t even know if this dude knows who I am.’ And the first thing he says to me is ‘Yo, Bratan, I fuck with your shit.’ I was like, ‘What kind of crap?’”
Scott reminisced about Brody stating, “You know, I’m making beats and stuff.” To which Scott responded, “You must send me a few beats!” So they connected.
Difficult noted that Brody previously spoke about his initial experience with beat-making after appearing in the 1994 film Angels in the Outfield.
“This film, by the way, pushed me to make beats because I was hanging out with kids in the bay in Auckland who produced and rapped,” he stated in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.
“I grew up in New York during the rise of hip-hop, but I didn’t realize I could actually make tracks. I started producing with these guys and learned how to do it before the internet exploded.”
Another actor who made headlines for his unexpected musical pursuits was Robert Pattinson, who admitted to creating “surrounding electronic music” while filming Batman during his downtime.
Scott is set to perform at Coachella 2025 this weekend. The full lineup and schedule can be found here.
