Back in February, the group hinted at the identity of its “new” frontman as part of the final evolution of the singer of the metal group.

Final Show Announcement

On February 5, Black Sabbath announced its final living show, which is set to take place in Birmingham on July 5. The group also revealed that the lineup will feature discoveries strewn with stars and special guests, including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Alice in Chains, and recent Grammy winners Gojira.

Fans with keen eyes noticed that the poster for the final show of the legendary metal group lists “Papa V Perpetua” from the ghost among the special guests. Later, the official Facebook page of the ghost shared a post stating: “(Message from the clergy), we want to tell you that he will come… in Birmingham on July 5.”

Very little was disclosed about the physical appearance of the new father figure, although the group included a photograph featuring a cool black and purple background with a Roman numeral “V” at the center.

Now that the new Papa V Perpetua is poised to take the stage, the group revealed what transpired with Honored Pope IV.

At the conclusion of the Ghost ‘Impera’ Touring album in 2023, Papa Emeritus IV “retired” from the stage following his final performance.

Since the formation of Ghost by Tobias Forge, the group has embraced a developing pseudonym for each new album, releasing a new Papa each time. The latest version of the frontman continues to explore themes rooted in Christian symbols and biblical connections.

Currently, the new video above unveils the backstory of the character in a new chapter titled “Arrival of a Secret Agent.”

In this episode, we learn that after leaving the rock group, the honored father was baptized by the emperor’s brother. It is revealed that his mother recently passed away, and he struggles to cope with the loss.

Furthermore, we discover that the new leader of Ghost, Papa V Perpetua, has a fraternal twin, a fact which he seems to be less than pleased about.

In discussion about the history of the ghost with NME, Alex Ross Perry, who filmed the group for The Ceremony Here is Now the Rite, shared: “The ghost as a group resembles a planet, and its history reflects the moon. The moon orbits the planet, even though it isn’t a part of it. The songs and meanings thematically relate to what the ghost is pursuing, yet they do not specifically narrate the family dynamics of mothers, sons, and fathers. I think it feels like two separate dishes for fans.”

Frontman Tobias Forge added: “The family dynamic we are discussing is merely a manifestation of a very universal phenomenon in humanity’s struggle for life. The fear of death is something all people can relate to.”
