Sean Ryder Pays Tribute
Sean Ryder is among those who honor Mark James Watmow following the announcement of the Happy Mondaze frontman’s passing.
Legacy of Mark Watmow
On Monday (April 7), the group registered as “The No 1 Happy Mondays Tribute” mourned the unexpected death of General Watmow last week. They expressed on Facebook: “He was truly one of a kind and a driving force in the success of bands over the past 11 years.”
They encouraged fans to share their memories of his performances, with other tribute groups like Echo, Selo areas, Cloned Roses, and Blurry joining in.
The M35 events page recounted how the musician rallied the happy group of Dani on Monday, recalling: “He was fired for this—he wasn’t even in the band yet, but he mentioned he was already working on taking it on tour across the UK and beyond. Well, kid, you did it—you broke it. There was no doubt.”
Ryder joined those celebrating Watmow’s life, taking to Instagram to share a photograph of the late singer and express his condolences to fellow bandmates and family.
Fans, impressed by Ryder’s performance, reminisced about his voice and passion, with one commenter noting that he sang every song “excellently”, adding: “An incredible frontman.” Another remarked that he was not just a “great frontman,” but also a talented “singer in his own right.”
Sadly, this news follows the recent announcement regarding the death of Paul Vags Vagstaff, a guitarist from Manchester, who played with the Parisian Angels before joining the Happy Mondays and Black Grapes.
A tribute was paid by a close circle of friends and colleagues of Vagstaff, including one who shared a nostalgic black and white image of Black Grapes on his Facebook page, writing: “RIP my friend.”
