Lily Allen Shares Her Experience with the Role in “The White Lotus”

Lily Allen’s Acting Aspirations

Lily Allen mentioned that she had an unsuccessful audition for a role in the hit HBO series White Lotus.

Career Goals and Podcast Insights

Recently, in an episode of the Miss Me? podcast with Mikita Oliver, the “Smile” singer revealed that auditioning was part of a broader effort to “put herself out there more” in her acting career. She shared her ambition to take on a leading role in a “detective drama of Great Britain.”

Her prior acting experiences include performances in West End plays like 2:22: History of Ghost and Pillow. Additionally, she made her small-screen debut in the 2023 Sky Atlantic comedy The Country of Dreams.

Regarding her acting experience, Allen admitted that she “did not really listen” to the feedback she received, adding, “I did it on my own White Lotus and obviously did not understand. But I’m a little afraid of independence.”

“I think maybe now I would have done it differently because I don’t think that people are as scared of me,” she said. “At the same time, I didn’t like the idea of playing against type in case they shared it with others. Now I don’t really subscribe to that fear; I don’t care.”

The drama series is set to conclude tonight (April 6) with a 90-minute finale airing on HBO at 9:00 PM ET. Fans can check out all the theories regarding who dies in episode 8 here.

Support for Rachel Zegler

In her podcast, Allen also defended Rachel Zegler, who recently faced criticism for her leading role in Snow White from Ion Platt, the son of the film’s producer Mark Platt, who accused her of poor performance.

Discussing the latest Disney live-action remake, Allen and Oliver examined how the lead actor received significant backlash, partly due to her vocal support for Palestine.

The film opened to dismal box office numbers, raking in only $42.2 million in the United States, far below expectations given its estimated budget of $240–270 million. It is currently facing one of the lowest ratings in IMDb history, sitting at 1.6 out of 10 based on user reviews.

Allen pointed out the hypocrisy of fans criticizing Zegler for expressing her political views when “it has always been essential for Disney characters to stand up for what they believe in.”

“Isn’t it typical that the protagonist usually faces struggles where they must stand up for themselves? Therefore, (Platt) should primarily focus on himself,” she remarked.
