Reports Indicate China Is Producing Guitars Inspired by Magician Donald Trump

Trump’s Guitar Controversy in China

It appears that the range of Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” guitars is being produced in China.

This became evident when the US President first made headlines last year with the launch of his own line of Trump guitars, eventually leading to a cessation from Gibson over the alleged “violation” of the manufacturer’s trademarks, including the iconic Les Paul body shape.

Documentary Revelations on Production

Now, a recently released documentary suggests that the instruments—despite their association with Trump’s message and their promotion featuring stars and stripes—may be manufactured in Chinese factories.

Reports from CGTN indicate that the guitars are produced in a region of China known for guitar manufacturing called Guizhou. Footage reveals that Trump’s guitars are being made by a company called Shenqu Guitars, one of the largest manufacturers in the area.

“US President Trump used our guitar,” said Shenqu’s owner Zheng Chuanjiu in the footage, showcasing the Trump Guitars site (through Guitar.com). “During his campaign last year, a group that attended his tour found us to produce individual guitars for him. Following his successful election, we are now selling these guitars in the United States. We recently received an order for 12,000 guitars.”

Shenqu Guitars supplies instruments to major manufacturers, including Fender. Notably, the Trump guitar site makes no mention of where the guitars are manufactured. Instead, the FAQ section states that they are produced by “several suppliers and include both domestic and international features/functions.”

Among the various models offered by Trump Guitars are the “American Eagle Series” and “Blessed the United States”. Prices for these instruments range from $1,000 (£773) to $11,500 (£8,895), with the priciest models allegedly signed by Trump himself.

The Trump Guitar website also claims the instruments were “custom designed and developed by a veteran with guidance from a master luthier.”

Tariff Policy Updates

In other news concerning Donald Trump, earlier this year, the US President signed an order to impose import tariffs on several countries, but due to public backlash, he postponed most of them. On Wednesday (April 2), he released an updated plan.

Under the new amendments, imports from most countries (including the UK) would incur a 10 percent tax, while others would face significantly higher rates—54 percent for China, 46 percent for Vietnam, and 24 percent for Japan.

Trump stated that these measures are a response to unfair trade practices, asserting that they “would make America wealthy again.” However, this news led to a drop in the global stock market, marking the worst day in the market since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic (through BBC). In response, China announced plans to impose an additional 34 percent tax on all imports from the United States.
