About the Series

The fantasy action series, created by Adi Shankar, draws its inspiration from the popular Japanese video game franchise.

It takes strong cues from Dante’s epic poem Divine Comedy, whereas the original game was built around a modified concept from Resident Evil 4. It follows the demon hunter Dante as he battles various creatures attempting to invade the realm.

When discussing the heavy Nu-Metal soundtrack, series creator Adi Shankar remarked in late January: “My devil can cry is set in the PS2 era of the late ’90s and early 2000s. This is not set in our time; it reflects my memories of the world before and after 9/11. My musical choices mirror that.” He further noted that the soundtrack would feature hits from that period, along with reimagined tracks from the game franchise. The anime was not initially designed for this soundtrack.
