Gary Blast Faces Bankruptcy After Failing to Compensate Victim

Gary Glitter’s Bankruptcy Declaration

Gary Glitter was declared bankrupt after he failed to pay over 500,000 pounds to the victim, of whom he was convicted of sexual violence when she was just 12 years old.

The disgraced glam rock artist (real name Paul Gadd) was convicted in 2015 for the abuse of a woman from 1975 to 1980, along with two other young individuals. Last year, he was ordered to pay the victim a total of 508,800 pounds.

This amount included 381,000 pounds for lost income and 7,800 pounds for future therapy and treatment.

Legal Perspective on Gary Glitter’s Case

Richard Bochon, head of the Department of Violence at Slater and Gordon, the legal firm representing the woman, confirmed that the 80-year-old Gadd was bankrupt. He added that Gadd had refused to cooperate and “continues to treat his victims with contempt,” as reported by BBC News.

In his statement, Bochon emphasized: “We hope and believe that the Conditional Release Board will consider his behavior in any future applications for conditional release, as he clearly demonstrates that he has never changed, shows no remorse, and remains a serious risk to the public.”

Details of the Conviction and Impact on Victim

Gadd was imprisoned for 16 years following his 2015 conviction and was released in February 2023 after serving half of his sentence.

However, he was returned to prison six weeks later after being discovered in violation of his licensing conditions, allegedly viewing indecent images of children.

During the initial hearing, the High Court learned that the woman had been unable to work for decades due to the abuse, resulting in lasting mental scars throughout her life.

Judge Mrs. Justice Dipples ruled at that time that it was evident the woman had struggled to find “any significant work throughout her life” as a consequence, and she awarded damages for complex psychological therapy, treatment, and loss of income.

In her decision, the judge noted that Gadd could not acknowledge the compensation claim against him, which led to him losing the default case.

Gadd’s sentence from the 2015 conviction is set to expire in February 2031.
