Last night (March 25), the moment arrived during the singer’s show in Mexico City, where he took the stage at Palácio de Los Deportes for his inaugural performance as a solo artist within the arena.

This event marked the beginning of his long-awaited tour “Staircase to the Sky,” where he opened the show by performing a One Direction song for the first time in a decade.

Beginning with a setlist of 18 songs, the audience could be heard singing along, while Malik engaged with the crowd, responding to their enthusiasm.

According to a fan who shared the moment on X/Twitter, the singer later expressed to the crowd: “I have not sung this song in 10 years. Thank you, it was amazing, I almost cried … ”

The show in Mexico City took place after Malik had previously informed fans at the end of 2024 that his concert in Newcastle had been canceled just minutes before the show was set to start.

“The show will no longer continue tonight,” the announcement stated. “We apologize for the late notice, it was his hope to continue, but that is now impossible.”

Following this, Malik posted on Instagram Stories, expressing his regret: “I’m extremely sorry it has come to this, but my voice is not working tonight, and without that, there is no show. I deeply apologize for the short notice … I held hope until the very last moment.”

The singer had previously postponed the American leg of his tour due to the passing of his One Direction bandmate Liam Payne. He later confirmed that those shows would be rescheduled for January 2025.

Earlier, he began his UK tour in Leeds on November 23, and at the final performance, he paid tribute to Payne with visuals displayed behind him, showing the years of his birth and death along with the message: “I love you, brother.” Payne tragically passed away on October 16 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
