Musical Collaboration and Inspiration

The Japanese singer’s new track features production by the members of the Indie-Pop Michelle team, merging K-POP and British garage sounds with lyrics in both English and Japanese. The single was recorded at Damon Albarn’s Studio 13 with Grammy-winning engineer Ricky Damian.

“Pop” encapsulates the feeling of yearning for something so delightful that you can’t help but want to embrace it until it surfaces! This song is a sweet journey into the Pop-Zhan genre, drawing inspiration from “New Jeans and Tea,” Miso shares.

The track follows her earlier singles -seal “certified,” “good kisses” with metronomy, “ghostly,” and “spurting,” all created in collaboration with DJ Boring. The album earcandy also features partnerships with A.K. Paul and Tyson, while the Chinese Indonesian director Clarin Chong contributes to its visual direction.

Reflecting on the album’s creation, Miso notes: “It’s about growing through your mistakes and embracing them. There are several profound messages, but everything is wrapped in sweet sounds, that spoonful of sugar that makes the medicine go down.”

Discussing her experience working with engineer Ricky Damian, she adds: “He was my Mr. Miyagi; I learned so much from him during the process. Plus, working in Studio 13 was incredibly inspiring since I’m a big fan of Gorillaz, and you can channel their energy there, feeling the influence of other artists who have used the space, from Erykah Badu to Paul McCartney.”
