Details of the Concert Incident
The veteran rock group played only five songs when, during their famous 1981 hit “Don’t Stop Believin’,” they had to leave the stage at NRG Stadium during the Houston Rodeo on Friday (March 14).
Later, a video of the incident surfaced on X/Twitter, showing lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, who joined the band in 2007, singing the second verse of the song just before the power went out and the projector screens turned dark.
While the audience was certainly taken aback, they continued to sing along. Members of the journey team quickly rushed to the scene with fire extinguishers, and according to Billboard, the crowd was informed that the concert could not continue and that an evacuation was necessary.

Official Response and Fan Reactions
The journey did not address the situation on social media, but Houston Rodeo later released an official statement about the cancellation on their Facebook page.
“Due to the unforeseen electrical incident under the stage, we regret to announce the cancellation of today’s journey concert. We sincerely apologize to all fans for this disappointment,” the organization wrote. “Our team is working diligently to assess the situation, and we will provide updates regarding options for rescheduling and refunds as soon as possible.”
Fans seemed to take the incident in stride, with one joking on X/Twitter: “I witnessed the journey to the smoky room; the sound went dead in the middle of that melody.” Meanwhile, others expressed disappointment, with one fan noting they had “never seen this in all my years” attending the rodeo.

In a separate incident last year, keyboardist Cain filed a lawsuit against guitarist Schon while the group was on tour with Def Leppard, as well as special guests Steve Miller Band and Cheap Trick. The lawsuit was based on grievances concerning “tour expenses,” claiming mismanagement of the group’s finances.
Shon later indicated that the group decided to bring in “an impartial party” to help resolve their differences.
